New Media researcher Lev Manovich (UCSD) has just released an e-book entitled Software Takes Command. The book is on the symbiotic relationship between software and culture. The summary begins at the bottom of page 21.

Can’t wait to have time to read this!

Finally. A thing that works!! (Well, sort of.)

This is by no means ready for any kind of critique—image links are broken, CSS is wonky, yada yada.. But it is semi-functional!!

Yay!!

So at least five people in the past, oh four days, have told me about this. (Four people actually, since Elizabethmarley and Springsteena are practically the same person.)

I actually came across “The Fishtown” drawing when I first embarked on this project. Or perhaps even before…

In any case, nice to know someone has already done a good deal of Philly cultural analysis legwork for me. But there need to be more Drawn Ladies…

I must team up with the Shmitten Kitten. (I’d be okay with being shmitten.)

Found an answer to a quandary that’s caused me minor concern for a while—how to flatten into one image the multiple layers that comprise the users’ avatar.

Answer: Huzzah for Adobe’s Developer Center. Tutorial here. Try the widget here.

I will be testing this soon…

This week I started implementing the model-view-controller pattern in Flex. This is good development practice because it allows the developer to view the same data in different ways, called models. The part of the code that allows for this functionality is called the “controller.”

One thing I am doing is making the wardrobe widget into its own module, which will be a separate swf that can be loaded and unloaded dynamically. This saves on memory usage, so there is less latency in the application.

Thank you, Friends of Ed.

Not sure why, but I have thank you comments (1, 2) from two Russians (ErvinTW and GDJared).

Intriguing.
